CareMates is a beautiful example of a high-impact project in social care. DPS was approached by Caritas, Germany's largest welfare organization, with the question:

Wouldn't it be great if our care workers had more time to spend with patients?

Team CareMates took on this challenge and quickly identified the underlying problem:

The process for admitting new patients consumes a lot of time.

Onboarding a new patient into an outpatient or inpatient care facility requires approximately 5 hours per patient and up to 25 hours per week. A patient's data and health state must be captured and documented, care plans developed, charges estimated, and contracts signed.

In an already overworked and stressful healthcare setting, the administrative burden of patient registration places care managers at risk for mental health issues and sick days. The combination of an overwhelmed workforce, a time-consuming patient intake process, and predicted rising demand for healthcare services necessitates an effective solution.

The solution: By digitizing processes and leveraging Artificial Intelligence, CareMates automates, streamlines, and accelerates admittance.

Caregivers' time spent on superfluous administrative tasks is decreased by more than 80%. They can now devote this time to patients rather than making phone calls or filling out paperwork.

After the first call, the relatives of a new patient receive a user-friendly questionnaire that digitally captures the patient's health data; no manual input is required. From there, care managers can monitor the status of each patient during the onboarding process using the CareMates web app dashboard.

Based on the questionnaire responses, an algorithm generates a health summary for each patient that includes all of their demands and risks. The technology uses artificial intelligence to produce tailored care plans, assess costs, and construct contracts.

The health status can be regularly updated throughout the treatment process, and care plans can be tailored to the patient's specific health needs.

CareMates not only make care more personalized, but also more human, because caregivers have more time with their patients.
